Emine B. Gulsoy is the Associate Director of the Center for Hierarchical Materials Design, a consortium lead by Northwestern University, University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory.  She received the B.S. degree from Sabanci University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2006. She received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Cargenie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, in 2008 and 2010 respectively, with her thesis titled Computational Tools for Automated Analysis of Three-dimensional Microstructural Characterization Data. She joined Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA, as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in 2010, where she currently is a Research Associate. She also holds a joint-affiliation with the X-Ray Sciences Division of Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL, USA. Her research interests include multi-modal imaging and microstructural characterization using serial sectioning via optical and electron microscopy and X-ray tomography, with an emphasis on coarsening in metal alloys and energy storage materials.
