About NAISE
Northwestern – Argonne Institute for Scientific and Engineering Excellence (NAISE) aims to bolster collaborations in transformative concepts, scientific discoveries, and technologies between Northwestern University (NU) and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). NAISE was initially established in 2013 as Northwestern – Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering until its rebranding in 2024. NAISE is an exemplary framework to connect an academic institution with a national laboratory, technically and administratively, and its pioneering setup has been duplicated across the nation to successfully achieve similar goals.
NAISE convenes researchers to create powerful collaborations in fields such as energy, materials, water, biological and environmental systems, data science and computation, quantum computing, and national security, while providing students and postdoctoral researchers with unique educationa and training opportunities .
Mission
Building, sustaining and supporting collaborative research between Northwestern University and Argonne National Laboratory in both strategic and emerging fields while providing the next-generation workforce with unique educational opportunities and resources.
Objectives
- Engage and support researchers and faculty at both organizations in pursuing and implementing collaborations towards scientific opportunities.
- Provide synergetic networking opportunities for researchers and faculty through workshops, seminars, and mini-sabbaticals.
- Engage Northwestern University graduate and undergraduate students in research at Argonne National Laboratory.
